WEA Eastern Region partners with Community Connections to help people back into work in Essex

WEA's Eastern Region is involved in an exciting project:

Building Better Opportunities:  Community Connections Essex

The Project launched across Essex in the autumn 2017 and we are working in partnership to help those furthest away from employment back into sustainable employment. Community Connections Essex is funded by the European Social Fund and the National Lottery Community Fund.

Helping people to take the first steps

The Community Connections Project supports the long-term unemployed or those who’ve never worked before. The project supports residents from Basildon, Southend, Thurrock, Harlow, Braintree and Tendring who meet the following criteria:

  • Have a disability or long-term health condition (including physical, mental health or learning difficulty)
  • Age 15 years and over
  • Out of work, education or training
  • Wants to move towards, training or sustainable employment

The project works with participants on a one-to-one basis to develop a programme that’s right for the individual which will include developing personalised plans. The starting point is to look at what motivates the individual and the barriers they face. We provide support, information, advice and opportunities to develop so that individuals can realise their goals, in a friendly environment.

The WEA has lots of experience in equipping people with skills for development, so we are perfectly placed to support this project with Community Connections.

Community Connections Essex is made up of eight partners, who have a wide range of specialist knowledge and experience, who all aim to support participants to reach their individual goals.

The WEA focusses on Braintree and Southend for community connections project.
