Health and Wellbeing Pathway

What are the WEA Pathways and how can they help your organisation?

  • Are you looking for an adult educational provider to deliver training? 
  • Does your organisation work with communities? 
  • Are you involved in adult education, lifelong learning and/or upskilling adults? 

At the WEA we work in partnership with hundreds of community organisations, employers and trade unions across England and Scotland -delivering adult education ‘within reach’ of local communities.

The WEA pathways have been developed as our new partner programme offering a range of courses tailored to suit you. 

We can run tasters which give you a flavour of the WEA organisation and student learning experience with the opportunity to work with us further with our WEA Pathways. 

We deliver these tasters in partnerships with children’s centres, voluntary and public sector organisations.

The Health and Wellbeing Pathway provides opportunities for people to improve their own health by being active and through learning more about health, diet fitness and nutrition. Courses also give opportunities for people to learn about wider health issues in the community and to prepare themselves for working in health-related jobs ( please see courses on offer  Into Work Pathway). 

The Get Started range of courses and tasters aim to build confidence and self-esteem. Students can move to the Develop range of courses. Some students may wish to start at the Develop stage.

Get Started with our tasters

  • Stress buster: Identify the things that cause stress and how to deal with them
  • Introduction to relaxation: Explore ways to unwind, breathe and relax
  • Healthy Eating: Top tips for a healthier tomorrow
  • Walk your way to better health: Get fit and meet new people
  • What is counselling? Explore some of the caring skills and theories to support people in need of help.

Develop your skills further with our courses

  • Seated exercise for the body and brain: A course to improve strength and enhance memory and concentration
  • A healthy new me: A course which encourages students to improve their health and wellbeing
  • Learn to cook: A course which introduces students to learn how to cook a range of healthy foods
  • Learn to run: This course teaches beginners  how to progress from run/walk to continuous running for 30 minutes
  • Introduction to counselling: This course will introduce students to the main approaches of counselling skills and practice 

Moving on 

  • Community Health Matters: This course is aimed at community members who want to change their community for the better and make a real difference
  • Introduction to working with vulnerable adults
  • Introduction to working in healthcare, adult care, and childcare
  • Introduction to health and safety awareness in the workplace

The last three courses can be studied as separate units (non-accredited) or together for the full City and Guilds Level 1 Award in Employability - see Into Work Pathway for details.
