The WEA have launched our Families Get Active project, working with young families to encourage an active lifestyle and bring families and local communities together.
The project, funded by Sport England, will involve working with local volunteers to create a programme of fun activities that family members of all ages and abilities can enjoy.
We want to bring families closer together by encouraging more physical activity and creating opportunities for families to think more creatively about getting active, showing that it doesn’t always have to be expensive or ‘traditional sport’.
Our aim is to create a fun environment where families will shape how they want to exercise and build how they can stay active.
Where is the Project Running?
Families Get Active will work across areas of Norwich (NR3, NR5) and York (YO24, YO26, YO30, YO31) where there is a shortage of opportunities for families to stay active, with little in terms of affordable organised sport for both adults and children.
To see more information regarding our activities in your local area, please contact our team.
What Will Be Involved?
Families will embark on the Active Families Challenge. By increasing their levels and frequency of physical activity, they’ll build confidence, take on greater challenges and bring the family closer together.
Through the course of this project we’re looking to create ‘Community Activity Champions’. If you are interested in finding out more, please contact our team.
We’re keen to bring communities together and inspire generations young and old. We hope that the project will help to combat rising obesity levels and increase levels of physical activity for years to come.
Through the course of this project we’re looking to create ‘Community Activity Champions’. These are families who will lead the way in physical activity in their community, developing the skills and knowledge to support families and the programme beyond the term of the project, becoming the voice of the community into 2022 and beyond.
If you and your family would like hear what’s going on in your area and how to take part, please contact our team.
We’ve teamed up with a number of fantastic local organisations who are all committed to helping their communities become fitter and healthier.
We’re always on the lookout for more great organisations who can support our project and want to create positive change in their community. Whether it be helping us to find talented volunteers to spearhead the project or providing venues/equipment for sessions, we want to work with inspiring partners who are looking to build a better future in their local communities.
If you think you can help, please contact our team.
Key to the success of the project will be a number of skilled and enthusiastic volunteers.
This is a fantastic opportunity to develop new skills working with people of all ages, creating a positive lifestyle change across generations in the local community and gaining valuable experience to enhance your CV.
We’re looking for volunteers:
• With a passion and enthusiasm for physical activity and creative ideas to bring the excitement back to exercise.
• Who are friendly and welcoming and feel confident talking to a range of people.
• Who are patient, reliable, organised and enjoy being part of a team.
If you’d like more information on the volunteering programme, please contact our team.
If you have any queries at all, our term below would be delighted to speak to you.
