About York Family Walks
This year Families Get Active, a three year project funded by WEA and Sport England have been working closely with The Rowntree Society and York Museums Trust exploring the wellbeing and sporting legacy that was set up by Joseph Rowntree for the local communities. Much of this legacy still exists today in the form of community buildings, active spaces and groups. Between now and the end of our Families Get Active Project we are going to share with you a rich resource called York Family Walks.
We are going to celebrate with our local communities and share knowledge and experience about factory days. We are really pleased to share this one hour linear walk with you. On this walk you will pass seven points of interest, from the former Rowntree Factory on Haxby Road alongside the River Foss and into New Earswick. We can't wait to share some stories with you about the local communities who were active here in the past.
Through a mixture of audio and visual content you will discover more about the people who worked and played here and the sporting and wellbeing legacy which still exists today. We even have live video footage showing sports days from the factory!
You can download a PDF map of the walk here.
We would love to invite you to our family friendly ceilidh, (barn dance) on Saturday 12th February between 2 and 4pm at New Earswick Folk Hall.
Don’t worry if you think you cannot dance or you don’t know the steps. We have invited the Bad Bargain ceilidh band who have a caller to help you. Come and try this fun way to get active with your family!
Family Ticket price only £5 per family. Tickets are limited and available via Rebecca at email@example.com.
